Some houses seem made for Christmas, and Stohrerhof is one of them: a farmhouse from 1770 with thick walls, old floorboards and a Stube that has been the heart of the house for some 250 years. When mist lies over Lake Ammersee outside and the tiled stove is warm inside, you need little more for a lovely Christmas.
The whole family under one roof
Christmas is when everyone wants to be together, and that is exactly what the estate is made for. Book the Entire Estate and the whole house is yours: room for up to 15 guests on three levels, two kitchens and no other guests on the property. Grandparents sleep on the quiet ground floor, the family with children in the Penthouse under the roof, and everyone gathers for meals in the farmhouse Stube.
That is where the Stube table stands, made from the old floorboards of the house. It can be extended, and with a side table all guests sit together at one long table. For smaller gatherings, the Main House and the Penthouse can also be booked on their own.
Christmas tree, festive dinner, presents
You are very welcome to bring your own Christmas tree and set it up in the Stube, right next to the Herrgottswinkel, the traditional corner with its crucifix. If you prefer, we are happy to put up a tree for you, with the costs passed on to you. Just let us know when you book.

Cooking happens in the two fully equipped kitchens, so there is plenty of room at the stove even for a big festive meal. If you would rather not cook yourselves, you can have a menu delivered by a caterer from the area. And after dinner the 1962 jukebox plays in the Stube, or the fire is lit in the Penthouse and the lounge.
Advent and Christmas around the lake
During Advent, the area around Lake Ammersee takes on a gentle, festive mood. At dusk it is worth walking along the shore as the lights come on in Riederau and Dießen. The Marienmünster in Dießen, one of the finest Rococo churches in Bavaria, is especially festive at Christmas, and on the Holy Mountain on the east shore, Andechs Abbey is well worth a visit.
A few dates for Advent 2026:
- Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December: Andechs Christmas market on the Holy Mountain, 12 noon to 8 pm each day.
- Sunday 6 December, 4 pm: “Dießener Advent” concert in the Marienmünster.
- Saturday 19 December, 7 pm: Vocativ vocal ensemble, “Machet die Tore weit”, in St. Stephan, Dießen.
There is also the Dießen Christmas market around the Taubenturm in front of the Marienmünster, run by the local heritage society for decades; you will find the 2026 date on its website (in German). Please check all dates with the organisers before you go.
Between the years and until Epiphany
After the holidays, the lake grows quiet. The days between Christmas and New Year and the first week of January are made for long winter walks, books by the fire and late breakfasts. On clear days with a föhn wind, the Alps seem to rise straight out of the water, as if they lay just beyond the southern shore.
You can see the year out with music in the Marienmünster: the New Year’s Eve concert begins there at 9.30 pm on 31 December, followed by the New Year’s Day concert at 4 pm.
